TWO LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES JOIN TOGETHER VIA MODERN ELECTRONICS
TO MAKE COIN PRESENTATION TO CHIEF LARRY GRORUD
Fairfax, Va., Nov. 20, 2008... Through the magic of electronics, Chief Larry Curl, on behalf of the Volunteer & Combination Officers Section (VCOS) of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, presented IAFC President Chief Larry Grorud with a Military Challenge Coin from the Grateful American Coin organization during VCOS’s “Symposium in the Sun” in Clearwater Beach, Florida, on October 31.
Although Chief Larry Curl in Florida and VCOS Board member Chief Dave Fulmer in Washington, D.C., were on two separate stages hundreds of miles apart, they were able to share the spotlight (with both audio and video) with Chief Larry Grorud as he was “COINED” in appreciation for his past service to our country.
“Chief Grorud served his country during the Vietnam era and we in the fire service wanted to express our appreciation for his many sacrifices and accomplishments,” said VCOS Chair Chief Tim Wall. “Many who served during this not –so-popular war returned home in less than welcoming conditions, and to that end we say ‘thanks’ to Chief Grorud for serving, for caring, and for his continued service to his country as Chief of the Janesville, Wisconsin, Fire Department.”
Chief Grorud was presented the Military Challenge Coin on behalf of the VCOS, the Grateful American Coin Organization, and the National Fire & Rescue Magazine with the help and technical support of many, including IAFC staff, Firehouse.com, and Washington, D.C. Fire Department Chief Dennis Rubin.
Also “coined” for their past military service to our great nation on the stage in Clearwater were Training Officer Ron Smith from Gillette, Wyoming, and Assistant Chief William Parker from Manchester Fire Department 8th District, Manchester, Connecticut.
Chief Wall note that those who know a veteran who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. military can show their appreciation by visiting http://gratefulamericancoin.org/ to obtain a coin for him or her for all they have done and are doing.
